it all started with a high school student

At the heart of the Forêt Collective lies a powerful testament to the transformative impact of collaboration and the boundless potential of youth-driven initiatives. This visionary project was sparked by the passion and determination of high school student Evelyne Bismuth, whose personal endeavor at LCC school quickly blossomed into a dynamic alliance of community partners.

Driven by a shared commitment to create a more sustainable and vibrant urban landscape, Evelyne brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, each contributing their unique expertise and resources. From Gestion Immobilière Quo Vadis, a pioneering property management firm championing sustainable development, to Parks Canada and Groupe de Recommandations et d’Action pour un Meilleur Environnement (GRAME), whose hands-on stewardship ensures the meticulous planting and maintenance of our forest.

Joining this powerful coalition are Ziter Urban Landscape Ecology Lab of Concordia's Next Generation Cities initiative, led by Dr. Carley Ziter, and the visionary team at Awe Exchange, all united by a common goal: to nurture a thriving ecosystem that serves as a beacon of hope for our collective future.

Launched on Earth Day 2024, the Forêt Collective stands as a living embodiment of the synergy that arises when diverse perspectives and expertise converge. It is a testament to the power of partnerships, the invaluable contributions of youth, and the profound impact that can be achieved when a community unites behind a shared vision.

“I have noticed that often people my age feel helpless in the face of grand issues like climate change; myself included. Through the lens of my school project, I have had the opportunity to research the benefits of biodiversity and green spaces in cities on physical and mental health. I am so excited to see the results of the amount of people that are getting involved in building this collective urban forest that is both for the community and by the community.”
